Full-Grain Oiled Leather
Oiled leather is basically just leather that has been given an intensely nourishing treatment. After the treatment, the leather can contain as much as 15% of its weight in oil. This treatment makes oiled leather one of the strongest types of leather around. That’s why it can be seen used for some heavy-duty boots including motorcycle boots.
Oiled leather can be easily recognized because it is shiny, the color is more evenly distributed and it can be oily to the touch (although not greasy and will not leave any residue on your finger). Note however that thick or shiny leather is not automatically oiled leather.
It is the easiest type of leather to maintain as it does not require as much upkeep. One care treatment per month should suffice (if worn regularly).
Oiled leathers will scuff and look distressed, but with age, that is part of how the leather builds it’s character (or Patina).
To smooth things back up, simply keep a horsehair brush handy with a neutral creme that will help rebuild the leather’s oils.
Repairable Construction
Known by many names, the McKay aka Blake Stitch method is a stitch down construction where the sole stitching appears on the foot side of the insole and on the outsole bottom. This method wraps the upper leather underneath the foot for more comfort and flexibility. The seam may sometimes be hidden in a groove on the sole’s bottom to minimize
any abrasion from the stitching.
